Description

Harrison Bird Brown (1831-1915) was a well-known Maine artist who was born in Portland in 1831.

Sunset Hill was a popular spot for artists to paint Mount Washington from the Village of North Conway, New Hampshire. Perhaps the best-known view from this location is John Frederick Kensett's Mount Washington from the Valley of Conway now in the collection of Wellesley College.

To the left mid-ground are the ledges of North Conway. Mount Washington is seen in the distance with Mount Adams off Washington's right shoulder. In the right foreground are the elms that were present in the area during the 19th century.

Though this is an undated work, it is given an ca. 1860s or 1870s date.
